THE WILLIS WILDKAT WRESTLING TEAM FINISHED 6TH AT THE STATE REGIONALS LAST WEEKEND, QUALIFYING FOUR WRESTLERS FOR THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND. SKYLAR MURILLO PLACED 5TH IN THE 138-POUND CLASS…CAMERON COLLIER PLACED 4TH IN THE 160-POUND CLASS…JOSH KING PLACED 3RD IN THE 170-POUND CLASS…AIDEN COLLIER PLACED 3RD IN THE 152-POUND CLASS, AND ANNA VARGAS PLACED 2ND IN THE 128-POUND CLASS. NEW WAVERLY BULLDOGS ARE ALSO SENDING THREE WRESTLERS TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT AT THE CYPRESS BERRY CENTER THIS WEEKEND. ALANA CURL PICKED UP HER SECOND REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, WHILE SADIE MADDIN PLACED SECOND IN HER WEIGHT CLASS AND LANGSTON MAYRANT PLACED THIRD.
THE HUNTSVILLE HORNET BOYS ARE PREPARING FOR THEIR BI-DISTRICT PLAYOFF GAME AGAINST THE WALLER BULLDOGS. THE TWO TEAMS WILL PLAY AT OAKRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL IN CONROE THIS TUESDAY AT 7:30. THE HORNET PRE-GAME SHOW WILL BEGIN AT 7:15 ON 101.7 KSAM.

THE LADIES HOLD ON TO THEIR SECOND PLACE STANDINGS IN THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE, JUST THREE WEEKS OUT FROM THE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT. IT WAS A 12-POINT LOSS FOR THE BEARKAT MEN LAST NIGHT IN JOHNSON COLISEUM. LAMAR WON, 77-65. BOTH MEN AND WOMEN’S TEAMS HOST THE HUSKIES OF HOUSTON BAPTIST THIS SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THE WOMEN PLAY AT 3:00 AND THE MEN AT 5:30. THE BEARKAT PREGAME SHOW ON 101.7 KSAM BEGINS AT 5:15.
A NEW COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT IN THE NFL IS EXPECTED TO PASS SOMETIME IN THE NEXT WEEK, AND IT WILL BRING WITH IT, BIG CHANGES IN THE NFL PLAYOFF FORMAT, STARTING WITH A 3-WEEK PRE-SEASON AND A 17-WEEK REGULAR SEASON. 7 TEAMS FROM EACH CONFERENCE WILL GET A PLAYOFF SPOT, WITH ONLY ONE TEAM FROM EACH GETTING THE ONE-WEEK PLAYOFF BYE. THE CHANGES TO THE NFL’S PLAYOFF FORMAT WOULD TAKE EFFECT FOR THE 2020 SEASON, ASSUMING THE NEW CBA IS RATIFIED BEFOREHAND.
RYAN NEWMAN HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL IN FLORIDA, TWO DAYS AFTER HIS FRIGHTENING CRASH ON THE FINAL LAP OF THE DAYTONA 500. THE RACING TEAM RELEASED A PHOTO OF NEWMAN WALKING OUT OF THE HOSPITAL WITH HIS CHILDREN.
THE NBA GET BACK TO BUSINESS TONIGHT, WITH THE HOUSTON ROCKETS TRAVELLING OUT WEST TO PLAY GOLDEN STATE TONIGHT AT 9:30.
…AND ROGER FEDERER ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT HE HAS UNDERGONE ARTHROSCOPIC SURGERY ON HIS RIGHT KNEE AND WILL HAVE TO SKIP MULTIPLE TOURNAMENTS, INCLUDING THE FRENCH OPEN. HE AIMS TO MAKE HIS RETURN, JUNE 29TH AT WIMBLEDON.

LAST NIGHT IN NAVASOTA, THE HUNTSVILLE LADY HORNETS 2020 SEASON CAME TO AN END AFTER AN UPSET LOSS TO RUDDER HIGH SCHOOL, 58-49.  ELSEWHERE IN GIRLS BASKETBALL, THE NEW WAVERLY LADY BULLDOGS WILL PLAY BUNA IN THE AREA ROUND, AND ANDERSON-SHIRO WILL PLAY ORANGEFIELD.  MAXPREPS IS REPORTING THAT THE HUNTSVILLE HORNET BOYS WILL PLAY WALLER IN THE BI-DISTRICT ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH.  THE LOCATION IS STILL TO BE DETERMINED.  THE HORNET BOYS GAMES WILL BE BROADCAST ON 101.7 KSAM.

GOBEARKATS.COM REPORTS THE SAM HOUSTON MEN’S GOLF TEAM WERE WIRE-TO-WIRE WINNERS AT THE ALL-AMERICAN INTERCOLLEGIATE AT GOLF CLUB OF HOUSTON THIS WEEK. IN THE PROCESS, JACK RANDLE CLAIMED HIS FIRST INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIP OF HIS COLLEGE CAREER.  THE KATS WERE 12-UNDER PAR AS A TEAM ON TUESDAY AND FINISHED 24-UNDER FOR THE TOURNAMENT TO DEFEND THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP. THE BEAT WAKE FOREST, THE 8TH-RANKED TEAM IN THE COUNTRY, BY FOUR SHOTS, TOPPING A 13-TEAM FIELD THAT INCLUDED NO. 30 SOUTH CAROLINA AND NO. 32 HOUSTON.

DENNY HAMLIN WON HIS THIRD DAYTONA 500 YESTERDAY, BECOMING THE FIRST DRIVER SINCE STERLING MARLIN IN 1995 TO WIN IN CONSECUTIVE SEASONS.  HAMLIN’S MARGIN OF VICTORY OF 0.014 SECONDS OVER RYAN BLANEY WAS THE SECOND CLOSEST IN RACE HISTORY.  THE VICTORY WAS SUBDUED IN LIGHT OF THE TERRIFYING FINAL LAP THAT SENT RYAN NEWMAN TO THE HOSPITAL.  NASCAR ANNOUNCED THAT NEWMAN HAD NON-LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES BUT WAS IN SERIOUS CONDITION.

THE HUNTSVILLE LADY HORNETS BEGIN THEIR PLAYOFF RUN TOMORROW NIGHT AT NAVASOTA HIGH SCHOOL AS THEY TAKE ON THE RUDDER RANGERS IN THE BI-DISTRICT ROUND.
