1958 - The Champs marked a No. 1 hit with their song, “Tequila.”

1969 – The Beatles earned a gold record for Yellow Submarine.

1971 - Janis Joplin garnered her only Top Forty hit with “Me and Bobby McGee.”  The Kris Kristopherson-penned song held the #1 spot on the Billboard pop singles chart for two weeks.

1979 - Though released as a B-side to her single, “Substitute,” Gloria Gaynor had another unlikely No. 1 hit with her classic, “I Will Survive.”

1981 - Eric Clapton canceled his 60-date tour of the U.S. due to an attack of bleeding ulcers.

1992 - Forty thousand fans congregated in Irving, Texas to watch Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Paul Simon, and John Mellencamp perform for Farm Aid Five.

2005 - U2 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with The Pretenders, Buddy Guy, the O’Jays, and Percy Sledge at a dinner ceremony in New York.
