THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE ANNOUNCED THERE WILL BE SOME MAJOR ADJUSTMENTS TO SOME OF THE LEAGUE’S POSTSEASON TOURNAMENTS FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR. IN BASEBALL, WOMEN’S SOCCER, SOFTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL, THE TOP FOUR REGULAR-SEASON FINISHERS WILL ADVANCE TO TOURNAMENTS AT THE SITE OF THE NO. 1 SEED. BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL TOURNAMENTS WILL FEATURE DOUBLE-ELIMINATION COMPETITION. MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TENNIS TEAMS WILL ALSO ADVANCE THEIR TOP FOUR REGULAR-SEASON FINISHERS TO THE TOURNAMENT AS WELL, BUT THE EVENT WILL REMAIN IN BEAUMONT, AS PREVIOUSLY DETERMINED TO ACCOMMODATE COACHES WHO LEAD BOTH MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TEAMS. THE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION ON THURSDAY GAVE MANAGEMENT A WIDE-RANGING RESPONSE TO A PROPOSED SET OF PROTOCOLS FOR A SEASON TO BE PLAYED DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC. IT ADDRESSED: PROTECTIONS FOR HIGH-RISK PLAYERS, ACCESS TO PRE- AND POSTGAME THERAPIES, TESTING FREQUENCY, PROTOCOLS FOR POSITIVE TESTS, IN-STADIUM MEDICAL PERSONNEL AND SANITIZATION PROCEDURES. MLB IS EXPECTED TO MAKE AN ECONOMIC PROPOSAL TO THE UNION WITHIN A FEW DAYS. MLB HOPES TO START THE SEASON BY EARLY JULY.
