HOSPITAL DISTRICT BOARD OF MANAGERS HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON TAX RATE

The Walker County Hospital District Board of Managers met Tuesday evening in a Special Meeting at First National Bank for a public hearing on a proposal for a tax rate of $.1162 per $100 valuation.

Several Walker County residents showed up to oppose the rate. The average home will incur about a $10 increase in their Hospital District tax from the previous year.

The tax rate as well as the recent move to have Community Hospitals Corporation join the District to run the hospital in a partnership seems like a “Hail Mary Pass” to some. However, it’s dire necessity was expressed by others.

Chairman of the Hospital Board Anne Woodard explained her view of the necessity for the proposed tax rate . . . .

Board of Managers member, Dr. David Toronjo, spoke in response to Chairman Woodard’s view . . . .

There were those in attendance that felt the hospital should have been put up for bid instead of the deal with Community Hospitals Corporation to run the hospital in a partnership.

In response, Hospital official Ralph Beatty explained his view from recent experience with the issue . . . .

Chairman Woodard announced the next Public Hearing on the Hospital Tax will be next Monday night, the 16th, at 5:30 PM.
