THURSDAY 08/15/19 – BEACH VOLLEYBALL FOR SOUTHLAND

NINE BEACH VOLLEYBALL PROGRAMS WILL BEGIN COMPETING UNDER THE CHAMPIONSHIP OVERSIGHT OF THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE IN 2020, AS THE LEAGUE ADDS ITS FIRST SPORT IN NEARLY 20 YEARS.  SAM HOUSTON STATE, ALONG WITH ABILENE CHRISTIAN, CENTRAL ARKANSAS, HOUSTON BAPTIST, NEW ORLEANS, NICHOLLS, SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA, STEPHEN F. AUSTIN AND TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI ALL SPONSOR NCAA BEACH VOLLEYBALL, WITH THE PROGRAMS AT SHSU, SOUTHEASTERN AND SFA BEGINNING THEIR FIRST COMPETITIVE SEASONS IN 2020.  WHILE THERE IS NO ASSIGNED REGULAR-SEASON CONFERENCE SCHEDULE YET, THE NINE TEAMS WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE INAUGURAL SOUTHLAND BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP, APRIL 17-19, AT THE ISLANDERS BEACH VOLLEYBALL COURTS IN CORPUS CHRISTI.

BEARKAT GOLFER WILLIAM HOLCOMB HAS ADVANCE TO THE ROUND OF 32 AT THE 119TH U.S AMATEUR GOLF TOURNAMENT AT PINEHURST, NORTH CAROLINA.  YESTERDAY, HOLCOMB CAME FROM BEHIND ON THE BACK NINE, WINNING SIX HOLES TO DEFEAT ENGLAND’S THOMAS FORSTER.  HOLCOMB IS PAIRED WITH SWEDEN’S LUVIG ABERG FOR A 9:10 TEE-OFF THIS MORNING.

OH THE HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULE, THE HUNTSVILLE LADY HORNETS PLAY A VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT IN SPRING TODAY, AND THE NEW WAVERLY LADY DOGS ARE IN GROVETON FOR A TOURNAMENT TODAY, AND THE HORNET KICK-OFF COMMUNITY PEP RALLY IS FRIDAY EVENING AT 6:30 AT HORNET FIELD AT HUNTSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL.

CHICAGO’S JAMES MCCANN HIT A TIE-BREAKING GRAND SLAM IN THE EIGHTH INNING AND WHITE SOX OUTLASTED THE ASTROS, 13-9 YESTERDAY TO WIN THE SEASON SERIES FROM THE RUNAWAY AL WEST LEADERS.  THE ASTROS ROAD TRIP CONTINUES TO OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA FOR A 9:00 GAME TONIGHT WITH AARON SANCHEZ GETTING THE START.

THE RANGERS AVOIDED A BLUE JAY SWEEP WITH A 7-3 WIN YESTERDAY IN CANADA.  THE RANGERS RETURN TO ARLINGTON TONIGHT TO BEGIN A SERIES WITH MINNESOTA.
