IN LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ON MONDAY, THE SEASON CAME TO AN END FOR THE HUNTSVILLE LADY HORNETS. THE HUNTSVILLE GIRLS WERE ELIMINATED FROM THE CLASS 5A REGION III PLAYOFFS WITH A 52-46 DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF THE WALLER LADY BULLDOGS IN MADISONVILLE. THE LADY HORNETS HAD BREEZED THROUGH THEIR DISTRICT SEASON UNDEFEATED, BUT RAN INTO A TIGHT, SMOTHERING DEFENSE THAN LED TO THEIR DOWNFALL AND FINISHED THEIR 1ST SEASON UNDER HEAD COACH LaTOYA BENNETT.

ALSO ON MONDAY, THE NEW WAVERLY LADY ‘DOGS WERE ALSO ELIMINATED FROM THE PLAYOFFS TUESDAY IN THE BI-DISTRICT ROUND OF THE CLASS 3A POSTSEASON. THE NEW WAVERLY GIRLS FELL 57-55 TO HITCHCOCK AT HUMBLE ISD’S ATASCOCITA HIGHT SCHOOL.

IN BOYS BASKETBALL, THE HUNTSVILLE HORNETS COMPLETED THEIR REGULAR SEASON WITH AN EASY 84-49 VICTORY OVER NEW CANEY AT PAUL BOHAN HORNET GYM. THE HORNETS FINISHED THEIR DISTRICT 20-5A SCHEDULE AT 16-&-0, AND WILL ADVANCE TO THE PLAYOFFS BEGINNING WITH THEIR BI-DISTRICT ROUND AGAINST MAGNOLIA NEXT TUESDAY AT THE WOODLANDS.

IN HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER ON TUESDAY, THE HUNTSVILLE HORNETS LOST TO KINGWOOD PARK 3-0, WHILE THE LADY HORNETS FELL TO KINGWOOD PARK 6-0.

IN COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL, THE SHSU BEARKATS – ALL ALONE AT THE TOP OF THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE MEN’S STANDINGS WITH A 3-GAME LEAD OVER THE FIELD – WILL BE ON THE ROAD TODAY WHEN THEY FACE THE TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI ISLANDERS AT 7PM IN CORPUS.
