TDCJ CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS INDICTED IN BRAZORIA COUNTY

The Houston Chronicle reports that a Brazoria County grand jury Thursday indicted four correctional officers for allegedly conspiring to plant screwdrivers in a Ramsey Unit inmate’s cell.

The report says the four men–Major Juan Jackson, Sgt. Marcus Gallegos, Officer George Wolfe and James Smith–are looking at charges of felony tampering with governmental records and misdemeanor official oppression.

According to the Chronicle report, following the initial revelations, five officials were relieved of their positions, another resigned and others were demoted or transferred. Over 600 disciplinary cases were thrown out, and a disciplinary policy review is underway.
